System Maintenance - Fortitude & Potence

To help balance the system the following adjustment has been made to Fortitude :

Bastion: For each health box of damage you take you gain 1 auto soak for the duration the damage exists.  In addition you may spend 3bp and gain Fortitude discipline dots as additional armor for a scene.  (Additional health boxes beyond 7 do not count towards Bastion).

Unending Life: (2bp) You may half the damage of one incoming attack as a free action.  This ability can not be used in conjunction with other abilities (except for the additional armor provided by Bastion) or with a dodge roll.  may only be used twice per scene.

To help balance the system the following adjustment has been made to Potence :

Vengence:  Each time a health box is lost you gain +1 auto damage for the duration that the damage exists.  (Additional Health boxes beyond 7 do not count towards Vengeance). Additionally you may spend 3bp to gain your dots in Potence as additional strength for a scene.

  1. A very fair balance, though that's a fair amount of blood to activate the side powers.

  2. 3bp is not a small amount of blood to be sure, but let's take a look and see how it stacks up with other powers. Destroying a weapon in Arkis costs 2bp and only functions for that turn while Fortitude and Potence powers last all scene. Piercing strike with Celarity costs 1-2 and only deals damage for that round. Feral Claws from Protean costs only 1bp, but increase the damage only by +1, while with Potence you are gaining a possible +5 for only 3bp (and Fortitude is the balanced inverse of that). Also with the above side powers it should be noted that they are not a transformation, and so may be stacked with things that also increase strength. Perhaps it will not be something that will be activated in every fight but that is ok, the kinds of things that can be accomplished with that amount of strength (STR above 7) shouldn't be something a PC should be able to do all the time anyway.

As always however if it seems unbalanced the cost of BP will drop back down.

  3. That's very true! A scene can last a quick fight, or go on for quite a while, which is something I didn't consider.
